Carter & Carter Development Corporation d/b/a Vann Carter Construction was incorporated February 25, 1988 by Vann B. Carter and his father, Lester G. Carter, Jr., long time Fayetteville attorney and retired Judge. The company was established to build and develop single family homes and neighborhoods, a mission that continues today.
“Son, find something you love to do that will pay you an honest wage and you’ll never have to work another day in your life.” The love affair with construction was born.”
After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1985 with a BA in Economics and earning his North Carolina Real Estate Brokers License, Vann sought the advice of his father as to a career path. “I remember asking if I should go to law school and become an attorney”, and my dad replied that he “wouldn’t wish that fate on his worst enemy”… instead he said “son, find something you love to do that will pay you an honest wage and you’ll never have to work another day in your life.”The love affair with construction was born.
During the early years of the company, Vann pursued the dual interests of establishing the foundation of Vann Carter Construction while pursuing a parallel career specializing in construction and development lending with two major Banks, First Union (now Wachovia) followed by Centura (now RBC), during which time he graduated from The North Carolina School of Banking. Subsequently, he worked for a large local ready-mixed concrete manufacturer in finance and operations, honing the skills for the future of Vann Carter Construction.
Today, the Company is the culmination of the past twenty years of experiences and continues to evolve, though its’ original mission remains unchanged … single family homes and neighborhoods.
